Social media still remain suspended across the country

ISLAMABAD ( MEDIA REPORT )

Amid restoration of news channels, social media  suspended in Pakistan on Sunday.

The ban was imposed by the government a day earlier.

Facebook, Twitter and Instagram are not accessible in Pakistan, while YouTube can only be accessed via the mobile application.

The Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) however ordered the restoration of news channel across the country on Sunday — a day after it had ordered cable operators to take all news channels off air.

Protesters renewed violence early Sunday morning as they resorted to arson and pelted stones at police, a day after authorities commenced an operation to clear Faizabad Interchange of the sit-in that had paralysed the federal capital for weeks.

A PTA spokesperson on Sunday said that social media websites will be unblocked all over the country, as directed by the authority.

Facebook, YouTube, DailyMotion, Twitter and Instagram had been blocked in some parts of the country on Saturday just as Pemra took private news channels off air.
