In its weekly inflation report, the PBS stated that during the past week, the prices of 23 essential items increased, 4 declined, while 24 remained unchanged.
The report noted that tomato prices surged by 46.03% and flour by 25.41%, while onions rose by 8.57% and broken rice by 2.62%. Similarly, garlic, potatoes, and mung lentils also became more expensive. In contrast, the prices of bananas, diesel, and sugar fell compared to the previous week.
The Finance Ministry had earlier warned that the floods could disrupt the supply chain, which in turn could heighten economic pressures due to damages and losses.
