Jamiat Ahl-e-Hadith Pakistan Emir Senator Professor Allama Sajid Mir passed away here on Saturday. He was 86.

Professor Sajid Mir had been unwell for quite some time. He underwent a surgery one month ago but could not fully recover.

He moved to his native town in Sialkot, where he breathed his last due to a cardiac arrest. He has left behind a wife, two sons and a daughter to mourn.

Born in 1938 in Sialkot, he had been head of his party for the last four decades. He remained senator five times from Punjab on Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) ticket. He remained senator for 27 years. He also authored several books.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President and former prime minister Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of Professor Sajid Mir, who supported the PML-N through thick and thin. Nawaz Sharif said the late scholar’s religious, academic and political contributions would continue to inspire people. He prayed for the departed soul and condoled with the bereaved family.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has expressed deep grief and sorrow over the death of Amir of Jamiat Ahl-e-Hadith, Senator Professor Sajid Mir.

In a statement, he prayed for the high ranks of the departed soul and for the bereaved family to bear the loss with fortitude.

The Prime Minister lauded the services of late Professor Sajid Mir, saying that he has been a foresighted political personality and Islamic scholar, whose demise has created a vacuum in the national political scene which could hardly be filled.

Shehbaz Sharif said late Sajid Mir always raised voice against extremism and sectarianism, which was a golden chapter in his contributions for the politics and religion.

The Prime Minister also shared his and the entire nation’s sympathies with the bereaved family in this hour of grief.

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif also expressed heartfelt condolences on the death of Professor Sajid Mir.

Speaker National Assembly Sardar Ayaz Sadiq has also expressed heartfelt condolences on the death of Professor Sajid Mir.

Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Emir Engineer Hafiz Naeemur Rehman expressed sorrow over passing of Allama Sajid Mir. He recalled the services of the late personage for Islam and education. Former emir JI Pakistan Sirajul Haq and deputy chief of JI Liaquat Baloch also condoled Professor Sajid Mir’s death.

Amneer Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) Maulana Fazulur Rehman has also expressed heartfelt condolences on the death of Professor Sajid Mir. Deputy Prime Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Federal Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain, Senator Shibli Faraz and others have also expressed deep grief and sorrow on the passing of Professor Sajid Mir.
