Booksellers are blaming provision of online books for decrease in number of their customers who often find it easier to get text of the desired books using internet that also helps them save money and time.

“Even some government departments are making online books available to the people then in this case we can rightly ask what is the future of book-selling business. Though in rural areas, the students and other people still depend on the paper books but the situation is quite different in urban areas where use of internet has increased considerably, especially among the students,” said Yasir Malik, a bookstall holder at G-9 Markaz.

He said there are many people who love to read paper books because they have a special romance with the reading culture in which the readers get a book and goes through it in quiet and tranquil environment.

It is pertinent to mention here that ebooks are portable and one can carry a whole library of hundreds of books in a laptop, notebook or any ebook reader, without worrying about their weight.

Nadir Khan, a student, said in the past he had to take three or four books with him every time he went on holidays, just in case he found one of them boring, or he read more quickly than expected but now he can take more than 200 books without needing extra luggage.

He said, “After downloading the book from internet you don’t have to be connected to the internet in order to read the ebook. You can stay offline. If you wish to have it printed, it can be done quite easily.”
