PESHAWAR ( ANWAR REPORT )

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Engineer Shaukatullah has said every possible step would be taken to provide latest and enhanced telecommunications and internet facilities in far-flung areas of Fata.

He directed the Special Communications Organisation (SCO) to formulate a detailed proposal regarding the provision of GSM mobile and broadband services in Fata after taking in the loop the local parliamentarians.

He expressed these views while presiding over a high-level meeting at Governor’s House here on Tuesday.

He directed all the administrative authorities to take effective measures to ensure provision of telecommunications and broadband services in Fata on priority.

SCO officials briefed the governor regarding provision of latest telecommunications and broadband facilities to Fata. He was informed that 152 tele-centres would be established in Fata in two years time.

Principal secretary to governor Fakhre Alam, DG SCO Brigadier Salahuddin and other concerned officials were in attendance.

Mr Shaukatullah also stressed that efforts should be made to provide telecommunication facilities to the education sector in Fata to bridge the digital divide between it and rest of the world.

Meanwhile, at another meeting, the governor directed the relevant authorities to ensure transparency in all development projects in the region.
