Dar wants PTCL issue resolved in two weeks

Finance minister Senator Ishaq Dar has directed chairman of Privatisation Commission to get resolved the issue of transferring of properties in the name of PTCL within two weeks so that the government could get $800 million from the Etisalat.

According to a press release, he gave this direction here on Monday while chairing a meeting of the senior officials of the Privatisation Commission and ministry of finance to review the status of transfer of properties in the name of PTCL, a senor official who attended the meeting told telecoalert.

Chairman Privatisation Commission Mohammad Zubair informed the miister that out of 131 outstanding properties as on June 23, 2013, 68 properties have been transferred in favour of PTCL, whereas the transfer of the remaining properties is in progress. He said the commission is in contact with the provincial governments for early transfer of properties.

The meeting was told that the most of the remaining 63 properties from Punjab, Sindh and KPK will be transferred to PTCL in the next two weeks and hopefully by the next review meeting all the properties will have been transferred ensuring the early release of $800 million from Ehtisalat company against the PTCL proceeds.

The finance minister, after detailed briefing, directed the Privatisation Commission to accelerate the process in order to deliver on the commitments of the government of Pakistan for expeditious transfer of properties to PTCL. He emphasised that this will secure the release of outstanding payment from the management of PTCL.Finance secretary Dr Waqar Masood, secretary privatisation Amjad Ali Khan, advisor to finance ministry Rana Asad Amin and SA to FM Shahid Mahmood also attended the meeting.
