JI Emir rejects proposed 27th Amendment; opposes sending Pakistani troops to Gaza

Says upcoming grand public gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan would mark the beginning of a new political awakening in country

LAHORE   (   WEB  NEWS  )

Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan Emir Hafiz Naeemur Rehman has strongly criticized the proposed 27th Constitutional Amendment, calling it a continuation of the 26th Amendment and an attempt by the entrenched ruling classes to further tighten their grip on the country’s power structure.

“Jamaat-e-Islami neither supported such arrangements in the past nor would become part of them in the future,” Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said while addressing a nationwide digital workers’ convention at Mansoorah on Wednesday.

Hafiz Naeemur Rehman emphasized that the role of the establishment in politics must end. ”Jamaat-e-Islami would not support any move to send Pakistani troops to Gaza. “ He said the upcoming grand public gathering at Minar-e-Pakistan under the slogan “Badal Do Nizam” (Change the System) would mark the beginning of a new political awakening in the country. “JI is organizing a massive rally at Minar-e-Pakistan after eleven years, where delegations from international Islamic movements, youth organizations, and human rights groups will participate.”

Hafiz Naeemur Rehman stated that while Pakistan was created on an ideological basis, the objectives of its formation are yet to be achieved. “The system imposed by the British and its loyal elites still rules the country. The powerful ruling class has disguised personal interests as national interest. To sustain this outdated system, new constitutional amendments are introduced again and again,” he added. He said it is unfortunate that a large segment of the population has begun to view this decaying system as their destiny.

The JI Chief emphasized that without gaining political power, it is not possible to establish a just social order. He said JI participation in elections and democratic struggle was not an end in itself, but a means to establish justice and reform society. He reaffirmed that the party will use all legitimate and constitutional means to achieve this goal. He said JI efforts secured relief in electricity bills for the public, led nationwide solidarity campaigns for Gaza, and raised the strongest voice against Form-47. The party also demands elections based on proportional representation, he noted.

Earlier, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman attended the launch ceremony of senior journalist and author Altaf Hassan Qureshi’s book “Pyare Maulana” at Ichhra, where he was the chief guest. Prominent attendees included Liaqat Baloch, PML-N leader Khawaja Saad Rafique, Secretary-General Ameer-ul-Azeem, Deputy Secretary-General Waqas Anjum Jafri, Syed Maududi’s son Khalid Farooq Maududi, senior journalist Mujeeb ur Rehman Shami and JI Information Secretary Shakeel Ahmad Turabi.

Speaking on the occasion, Hafiz Naeemur Rehman said Maulana Syed Abul A’la Maududi exposed feudalistic and imperial distortions of religion in his time and presented Islam in its true form. “His greatest legacy is Jamaat-e-Islami, which today is an asset for the entire Ummah,” he added.
