The Chinese Foreign Ministry has stated that China respects Afghanistan’s independence and sovereignty. Responding to a journalist’s question regarding U.S. President Trump’s statement about reclaiming Bagram Air Base, the Deputy Director of the Chinese Foreign Ministry said that Afghanistan’s future should be decided by the Afghan people themselves. He further added that China will not support tension or conflict in the region.
The Deputy Director expressed hope that all parties would play a constructive role in ensuring peace and stability in the region.
It is worth noting that yesterday, during a joint press conference after meeting British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, U.S. President Donald Trump said that America is trying to reclaim the Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan. He added that the base is located just an hour away from the site where China manufactures its nuclear weapons.
