Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party has strongly denounced the Indian government’s move to deploy an additional 20,000 paramilitary troops from its Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in occupied Jammu and Kashmir, terming it as yet another step to fortify its occupation and solidify it’s control over the disputed territory.

In a statement issued on Thursday, DFP Spokesman Advocate Arshad Iqbal said that New Delhi’s desperate attempt, aimed at reinforcing its military grip over the disputed territory of Jammu and Kashmir, runs parallel to the normalcy narrative being peddled by the Modi government.

He said that it was quite unfortunate that rather than resolving the longstanding dispute peacefully and addressing the legitimate political grievances of the Kashmiri people the Indian government views it through security lense and attempts to crush the Kashmiris’ genuine demands through heavy militarization.

The spokesman reminded the Indian government that the legitimate political movements with a massive public support cannot be suppressed by the use of military might.

He said that the Indian government should take a leaf from the history and realize the fact that it cannot break the will of the Kashmiri people through such tactics.

Meanwhile, the spokesman also condemned the high-handedness of the occupation authorities and their failed attempts to prevent people from celebrating martyrs’ day and visiting the martyrs’ graveyard.

He said that such cowardly acts, aimed at erasing people’s collective memory as well as the region’s history, won’t help India to achieve its nefarious designs in the region.
