Prime Minister (PM) Shahbaz Sharif and CM Sohail Afridi on Monday discussed security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) during a meeting held at PM House.
The meeting continued for an hour between Shehbaz Sharif and Sohail Afirdi. According to sources, the meeting involved a detailed discussion on the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The chief minister briefed the prime minister on provincial concerns regarding law and order. The officials also discussed the fulfilment of federal responsibilities and the latest updates on the 13th Finance Commission allocations.
Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and KP Finance Advisor Muzammil Aslam attended the meeting, along with Prime Minister’s Political Affairs Advisor Rana Sana and Federal Minister Amir Muqam.
Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi. During the meeting, the Prime Minister emphasized the need for cooperation between the federal and provincial governments for the development and prosperity of the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The Prime Minister assured federal support, within the federal jurisdiction, for development projects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, improvement of infrastructure, education, health, and the creation of employment opportunities.
The Prime Minister declared federal–provincial cooperation essential for maintaining law and order in the province and said that further efforts are needed by the provincial government to ensure peace. He stressed that the provincial government should strengthen provincial institutions for counterterrorism.
Shehbaz Sharif stated that the federal and provincial governments will continue joint efforts for the complete eradication of terrorism. He said that the provincial government must fulfill its constitutional responsibilities to ensure law and order and public welfare in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
He added that the provincial government is empowered and should take measures for health and education for the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The federal government has always worked for the betterment of the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The province is an important unit of the federation, and the federal government will continue comprehensive efforts, within its jurisdiction, for the prosperity of its people.
The Prime Minister further said that close coordination and effective communication between the federation and the provinces are indispensable for national development and public service. The federal government believes in moving forward with all provinces together and implementing a vision of balanced development. Through mutual consultation and joint action, the goals of national unity, stability, and prosperity can be effectively achieved.

Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sohail Afridi said that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif invited him for the meeting, during which cooperation against terrorism was discussed. There was no discussion about the PTI founder or any political matters.
He said that first, condemnation was expressed over terrorist incidents in Balochistan, and discussions were held with the Prime Minister on cooperation to eliminate terrorism. Issues related to NFC, NHP, and outstanding federal dues for the province were discussed, and responsibility has been assigned to Ahsan Iqbal.
He added that discussions were also held on a joint strategy against terrorism. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has already spent 26 billion rupees from its own resources on the tribal districts. Terrorists have no province, no country, and no religion. As Pakistanis, everyone must condemn terrorism, and they will continue to do so.
He also stated that there was no discussion regarding a meeting with the PTI founder, and no political matters were discussed with the Prime Minister. The people of Tirah Valley and Kurram are making sacrifices, and in comparison, four billion rupees are insignificant. The people of Tirah Valley and Kurram are sacrificing for Pakistan, and statements should not be made that hurt their sentiments.
Sohail Afridi further said that today’s meeting with the Prime Minister was a requirement of his office as Chief Minister; as a political worker, he might not have attended. However, meeting the Prime Minister was necessary for the rights of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and its people. He added that another special meeting will be held on the issue of terrorism.
