At the event organized by Nawab Salimullah Academy at the Maulana Akram Khan Hall of the National Press Club to mark Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s 149th birth anniversary, the program was presided over by the organization’s president Muhammad Abdul Jabbar. The chief guest was Muhammad Samsuddin, convener of the Citizens’ Council. In his speech as the chief guest, he said, “We became independent as the first Muslim country in 1947. We have Bangladesh today because of Quaid-e-Azam. If they had not come to this country in 1947, no industries or factories would have been established in Bangladesh.”
He further said, “Before Operation Searchlight, India attacked our Urdu-speaking people. They believed that by killing the Urdu-speaking population, they would be able to take control of Bangladesh. We express our gratitude to the ancestors of the Urdu-speaking people living in Bangladesh for establishing industries and factories in this country.” In addition, other speakers present at the event described various incidents from Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s life, from his birth to his death.

We are now fully prepared. The hostility that once existed behind us is no longer there. That is why we are now able to do this—observe the birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, his 149th birth anniversary. After 2005, we were unable to observe it. From last year, we have once again begun observing his birth and death anniversaries regularly.
Nawab Salimullah Academy follows the ideals of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Iqbal. All of them played pioneering roles in establishing Muslim national identity. Observing the 149th birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah is essential for the existence of Bangladesh, for the existence of its people, and for the establishment of Muslim national identity, and we have been observing it for a long time.
From the very beginning, Nawab Salimullah Academy used to observe it, but after 2005 we were unable to continue. From last year, the birth and death anniversaries of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and Allama Iqbal have once again been observed regularly under the initiative of Nawab Salimullah Academy.
These two figures played extremely significant roles in establishing Muslim national identity. Therefore, as Muslims and as the people of Bangladesh, we have no hesitation regarding this. From 2005 until last year, the question was why it could not be observed for so many years. The reason was political—permission was not granted to us. At no time were we given formal approval. Even when events were held at the Press Club, we always faced obstacles.
However, until after the 5th 2024 of August—meaning up until August of last year—we could not carry out any activities related to Quaid-e-Azam or the establishment of Muslim national identity. Now we are ready. The hostility behind us no longer exists, which is why we are now able to do this.
The reason is that a major part of Indian dominance is cultural aggression, which prevented us from asserting our identity as Muslims. This is the clearest and most important truth. After the 5th of August, permission has been granted for such activities. This is the reality.
