A meeting of the special task force formed to take action against illegally residing foreign nationals was held on Wednesday at the CDA Headquarters under the chairmanship of Chief Commissioner Islamabad and Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) Muhammad Ali Randhawa. Inspector General Islamabad Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, Deputy Commissioner Islamabad Irfan Nawaz Memon, officials from the district administrations and police of Rawalpindi, Attock, Haripur, and Murree (via Zoom link), as well as representatives from the Ministry of Interior, NADRA, PTA, and other relevant departments attended the meeting.
The meeting reviewed the progress made so far and discussed the strategy for the future. Briefing the Chief Commissioner Islamabad and CDA Chairman, officials stated that the process of repatriating illegally residing foreign nationals from various districts is ongoing rapidly, and most of these individuals have been ensured voluntary return. Legal actions are also underway against landlords who accommodated these illegal foreign residents.
The Chief Commissioner directed that strict measures be taken to completely restrict the movement of illegal foreign nationals in adjoining areas. He further instructed that steps be taken to prohibit the provision of electricity and other utilities to illegal foreign residents. He emphasized that no individual should provide any kind of accommodation or employment to illegal foreigners. He also directed that all district-level data be connected to the Ministry of Interior’s central dashboard.
Inspector General Islamabad Police Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi stated that strict measures should be taken to eliminate settlements of illegally residing individuals. He added that strong action should also be taken against foreign nationals using fake documents in medical matters and those holding counterfeit identity cards.
PTA officials briefed the meeting that the process of blocking mobile SIMs belonging to illegally residing individuals is underway.
The meeting was further informed that a door-to-door survey is being conducted rapidly in the federal capital to gather complete information about residents. Data of every individual living in Islamabad is being recorded, including CNIC details and basic personal information. To speed up the survey, an automated mobile app has been developed through which citizens themselves can enter their information. Through the app, residents are entering details of their families, employees, nationality, and tenants. The survey teams have so far completed the survey of more than 25,000 households, and within the next few months, surveys of around 100,000 households in Islamabad will also be completed. Officials added that all data is being securely stored with NADRA to ensure information security.
The meeting agreed to accelerate the door-to-door survey process and to integrate and activate NADRA and police survey data.
Officials informed the meeting that to make Islamabad safer and more peaceful, the issuance of M-Tags is also continuing rapidly, and so far, more than 52,000 vehicles in the federal capital have been issued M-Tags. It was further stated that effective implementation of this system is being ensured at various locations within Islamabad.
