Severe crisis in Gaza; relief efforts are insufficient, says the United Nations
Shortages of aid supplies are hampering efforts to provide essential medical services to civilians

The spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, Stéphane Dujarric, has warned that the devastated medical infrastructure in Gaza, along with the extreme shortage of essential humanitarian supplies caused by Israel’s two-year-long war on the enclave, is severely hindering efforts to provide necessary medical care to civilians.
Speaking to reporters, Dujarric said the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is “extremely severe.” Although relief operations are ongoing, they remain insufficient. He stated that the health and humanitarian needs are increasing at a pace far beyond the capacity of organizations working in the field.
He explained that the UN’s humanitarian coordinator has emphasized that aid supplies must be allowed into Gaza without interruption, and there should be no obstacles preventing relevant agencies and partners from delivering medical and humanitarian assistance.
This UN warning comes at a time when, since 7 October 2023, the occupying Israeli forces have continued a brutal campaign of genocide in Gaza involving killing, starvation, destruction, and forced displacement—while ignoring international demands and the orders of the International Court of Justice.
Israel’s aggressive assault has so far killed and wounded more than 238,000 Palestinians, the majority of whom are women and children. Over 9,000 Palestinians are missing, and hundreds of thousands have been displaced. The famine imposed on Gaza has claimed the lives of many civilians, especially children, while residential areas and essential infrastructure have suffered immense destruction.
