Russia has offered to mediate between Pakistan, India, and Afghanistan. Speaking at a session of the Islamabad Institute of Strategic Studies, Russian Ambassador Albert Khorev offered to play a mediatory role for lasting peace in the region.

Ambassador Khorev said that the security situation in the region is a matter of serious concern, especially the situation in Afghanistan, which he termed highly sensitive for Russia. He added that Russia is willing to play its role in reducing tensions between Pakistan and its two neighboring countries, Afghanistan and India.

Pointing towards the involvement of external powers in increasing tensions in South Asia, the Russian ambassador said that Russia always supports regional peace, stability, and efforts against terrorism. He emphasized that disputes between neighboring countries can be resolved better by regional stakeholders themselves.

Declaring Pakistan an important partner, he said that Pakistan holds a significant geographical and diplomatic position in the region. The Russian ambassador also expressed Russia’s resolve to continue cooperation with Pakistan for economic and social development.

It is worth mentioning that this statement has come at a time when Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has met President Vladimir Putin in Moscow, leading to expectations of further strengthening in Pakistan–Russia relations.
