The government has approved the Wheat Policy 2025-26 under which procurement will be made at the rate of 3,500 rupees per 40 kilograms.
To this respect a high-level meeting was held in Islamabad on Saturday with Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif in the chair.
The new policy is aligned with international wheat import prices. Under this policy, farmers will be provided fair prices and the government will procure strategic reserves to ensure stable stocks and protect farmers.
Under the new policy, there will be no restrictions on the inter-provincial movement of wheat, ensuring its availability nationwide.
It was further shared that the Federal Minister for National Food Security will chair a national committee responsible for overseeing wheat monitoring. The committee will include representatives from all provinces and will supervise the implementation and coordination of policy measures.
It will convene weekly and report directly to the Prime Minister.
Chief Ministers of Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, and Gilgit-Baltistan, a representative of the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the Prime Minister Azad Kashmir, and other relevant stakeholders attended the meeting.
Meanwhile Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has lauded Pakistani space scientists and engineers for the successful launch of the country’s first Hyper spectral Satellite, HS-1, from the Chinese Satellite Launch Centre.
In a statement issued on Sunday, he noted that, like other sectors, Pakistan and China’s cooperation in space research is exemplary and of strategic significance.
PM Shehbaz Sharif expressed deep gratitude to China, describing it as a great and longstanding friend, as well as a vital strategic partner in this remarkable collaboration.
He remarked that the hearts of Pakistanis beat in harmony with the Chinese leadership and people.
The Prime Minister expressed confidence that the satellite will support Pakistan’s research efforts in climate change and geographical transformation. He added that this achievement marks a major milestone in the country’s fight against the adverse impacts of climate change.
PM Shehbaz Sharif said the satellite is expected to significantly strengthen national capabilities in agriculture, environmental monitoring, urban planning, and disaster management.
Meanwhile Interior Minister Mohsin Raza Naqvi called on Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif in Lahore on Sunday.
During the meeting, the Interior Minister briefed the Prime Minister about the law and order situation in the country.
The Prime Minister was also briefed on ongoing development projects in the federal capital.
