Washington (Sabah News)
In a significant step to provide higher education opportunities to underprivileged students in Pakistan, Muslims of America and the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Washington, D.C.
Under the agreement, 20 deserving students from across Pakistan will be awarded full scholarships to pursue higher education at NUST, one of the country’s premier institutions renowned internationally for its excellence in engineering, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies.
Prominent Pakistani-American businessman and former adviser on minorities to U.S. President Donald Trump, Sajid Tarar, addressed the ceremony, saying:
“Supporting these talented students is a matter of pride for me. This is only the beginning—we will raise more funds every year to expand this program. These young people are Pakistan’s future, and I am glad to invest in the country’s bright tomorrow.”
He praised NUST’s world-class education and emphasized the importance of equipping Pakistani youth to compete globally in fields such as artificial intelligence and engineering.
Dr. Rizwan, Pro-Rector of NUST, welcomed the partnership, calling it a positive step. He said:
“We are proud to collaborate with international organizations like Muslims of America. NUST maintains a transparent, merit-based admission system and ranks among Pakistan’s top universities. The growing interest of international students in our programs is proof of our strong academic reputation.”
Jassi Singh, President of Sikhs of America, also spoke at the event, stating:
“As Sikhs, we consider Pakistan our second home. Supporting the education of Pakistan’s youth is an honor for us. Education is a cause that transcends borders and religions.”
The MoU reflects a strong commitment from overseas Pakistanis and partner organizations to invest in Pakistan’s education sector. Plans for future fundraising events and expanding the number of scholarships are already under consideration.
