Nationwide Inflation Rate Rises Further Over the Past Week

During the past week, the inflation rate increased by 0.31% on a weekly basis and by 2.21% on an annual basis, according to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics.

The pace of inflation in the country has once again begun to show a consistent upward trend, with weekly inflation rising for the second consecutive week. In the latest week, the inflation rate increased by 0.31%, while on an annual basis the rate recorded an increase of 2.21%.

According to the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics’ weekly inflation report, during the past week the prices of tomatoes, chicken, eggs, onions, garlic, wheat flour, jaggery, lentil mash, and firewood rose, while bananas, potatoes, lentil chana, mung beans, masoor dal, ghee, salt, rice, and LPG became cheaper.

The report stated that in a single week, the price of tomatoes increased by Rs 10.42 per kilogram, chicken by Rs 19.67 per kilogram, and eggs by Rs 6.19 per dozen. Sugar rose by Rs 0.52 per kilogram, and wheat flour increased by Rs 21.18 per bag. In contrast, bananas became cheaper by about Rs 4 per dozen, potatoes by Rs 1.37 per kilogram, and an LPG domestic cylinder dropped in price by Rs 10.39. Likewise, masoor dal, chana dal, rice, and salt were among the items that saw a price decline, while prices of 25 items including fresh milk, yogurt, cigarettes, and bread remained stable.

The statistics further revealed that during the past week, according to the Sensitive Price Index (SPI) on an annual basis:

  • For households with a monthly income of up to Rs 17,732, inflation increased by 0.31%, reaching 2.22%.

  • For those earning between Rs 17,733 and Rs 22,888 per month, inflation rose by 0.33%, reaching 2.99%.

  • For those earning between Rs 22,889 and Rs 29,517 per month, inflation increased by 0.31%, reaching 2.47%.

  • For those earning between Rs 29,518 and Rs 44,175 per month, inflation rose by 0.33%, reaching 2.15%.

  • For households earning more than Rs 44,176 per month, inflation fell by 0.31%, settling at 1.46%.
