Chidambaram says no proof of Pakistan in Pahalgam attack
NEW DELHI ( WEB NEWS )
Former Indian Home Minister P. Chidambaram has claimed that there is no evidence linking Pakistan to the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam. He stated that the attackers were Indian nationals who had received training within the country, not from across the border. Chidambaram strongly questioned the Indian government’s repeated assumptions about Pakistan’s involvement without proof.
Chidambaram further stated that the government’s refusal to reveal details of “Operation Sindoor” in Parliament raises serious concerns. He accused the administration of hiding facts, including the origin of the terrorists and the extent of Indian losses during the operation. He emphasized, “There’s no proof they came from Pakistan. For all we know, they may be homegrown.”
BJP leaders, however, slammed the senior Congress figure for what they called a “clean chit” to Pakistan. They accused him of undermining national interest and siding with an enemy narrative at a time of heightened tensions. The backlash intensified as Parliament prepares to debate the Pahalgam incident and India’s military response.
It’s important to note that Pakistan officially condemned the Pahalgam attack and offered to assist in an impartial investigation. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif extended full cooperation to India, but the Modi government declined the offer, maintaining its firm stance against external involvement.
