Constitution Article 41 Sub-Clause 4 If the election of the President could not be done due to the dissolution of the Assembly at the end of the presidential term, the election must be held within 30 days of the general elections. Article 41 Sub-Clause 4 of the Constitution Arif Alvi was elected President on 4 September 2018. Arif Alvi was sworn in as the 13th President of Pakistan on 9 September 2018. The presidential term of Arif Alvi ended on 9 September 2023. He is in this position under the constitutional authority. Arif Alvi will hold the position of the President for about five and a half years until he retires. The President may continue to hold office even after the expiry of the term of office until a new President takes office. Article 44 Sub-Clause of the Constitution A President of the State shall hold office until the completion of five years from the day on which he assumes office. According to Article 44 of the Constitution, the Chief Election Commissioner shall conduct and conduct the election for the post of President and the Election Commissioner shall appoint the Returning Officer for the presidential election. The Chief Election Commissioner will announce the names of the candidates. The members of the National Assembly, the Senate and the four provincial assemblies will elect the new president through secret ballot. Members of the National Assembly will vote at the same place in the Parliament. Each member of the National Assembly, Senate and Balochistan Assembly will have one vote. The votes received by a candidate in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Sindh Assembly will be multiplied by the total number of Balochistan Assembly i.e. 65 and divided by the number of the respective Provincial Assembly. And after the election, the new President will take the oath of office under Article 42 of the Constitution. The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Pakistan will take oath from him. The presidential term starts from the day of swearing in of the new president. According to Article 44 of the Constitution, the period starting from the swearing in of the president consists of five years.
