Pakistan and China signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the construction of Chashma-5 Nuclear Power Plant.

Chinese companies are making $4.8 billion investment in this nuclear power project. It will generate 1200-MW of electricity.

The reactor is the seventh nuclear power unit that China has exported to Pakistan and the third HPR1000.

Chinese companies gave a concession of Rs.30 billion to Pakistan in two phases in the implementation of this project.

Pakistan and China signed a Memorandum of Understanding for the construction of Chashma-5 Nuclear Power Plant.

Chinese companies are making $4.8 billion investment in this nuclear power project. It will generate 1200-MW of electricity.

The project is a sign of Chinese companies trust on Pakistan. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said this while addressing a ceremony in connection with Chashma-5 Nuclear Power Project.

President of the China National Nuclear Corporation Overseas Ltd and Pakistan Muhammad Saeedur Rehman, member Atomic Energy Commission signed the MoU.

Meanwhile, PM Shehbaz congratulated the Pakistani nation that Chinese state-owned company, China National, and the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission signed the agreement for 1,200MW C-5 nuclear plant.

“Such projects are producing thousands of megawatts of electricity. Recently, I also inaugurated the K-4 project in Karachi,” he said at the event.

Chashma 5 will be constructed by CNNC subsidiary CNNC China Zhongyuan Engineering Corp, the company said.

“According to the agreement, Chinese company will build a one-million-kilowatt-class nuclear power unit with HPR1000 technology at the Chashma Nuclear Power Plant in Pakistan.

The reactor is the seventh nuclear power unit that China has exported to Pakistan and the third HPR1000.

The Chinese-designed HPR1000 Hualong One reactor design is under construction in China, at Fuqing units 5 and 6 and Fangchenggang units 3 and 4.

According to available information, Chashma is already home to four Chinese-built CNP-300 units, while two HPR1000 units are under construction at Pakistan’s Karachi nuclear power plant. Construction began on Karachi unit 2 in 2015 and unit 3 in 2016.

The HPR1000 has also been proposed for construction at Bradwell in the UK, where it is undergoing Generic Design Assessment.

UK national regulatory bodies the Office for Nuclear Regulation and the Environment Agency recently announced the start of the second, technical, phase of the assessment programme for the UK HPR1000.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Tuesday said the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding for the 1,200 Megawatt Chashma-V Nuclear Power Plant is a great step forward in economic cooperation between Pakistan and China.

Addressing the signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding for the construction of the Chashma-V Nuclear Power Plant in Islamabad on Tuesday, he said we will kick start it without any further delay.

The premier said under a difficult economic situation, Pakistan is up again for an investment of 4.8 billion dollars from China in this project, which sends the message that Pakistan is a place where Chinese companies and investors continue to show their trust and faith.

He said the Chinese companies gave a concession of Rs.30 billion to Pakistan in two phases in the implementation of this project.

He said when Pakistan is faced with economic challenges, and we are also engaged with IMF to finalize the 9th Review and met all conditions required by the IMF, China once again came to our help and rescue.

PM Shehbaz Sharif also lauded great brotherly countries Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates and Qatar for extending help to Pakistan.

The premier said we are deeply obliged to President XI Jinping, and the Chinese leadership for their generous help to Pakistan.

Finance Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Minister for Energy Khurram Dastgir, Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal, the Chinese Charge d’affaires Ms Pang Chunxue representative of Chinese companies and other higher authorities of Pakistan and China were also present on this occasion.
