Prime Minister Azad Jammu and Kashmir Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan called on former prime minister and Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan here on Friday.

During the meeting the duo discussed a whole gamut of issues including the forthcoming budget, development process and governance affairs in Azad Kashmir.

On the occasion, the Prime Minister Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan while briefing the PTI Chairman Imran Khan said the government was all set to present its maiden budget. The budget, he said, would be progressive and people friendly despite limited resources “Despite limited resources the government is going to present its first progressive and people friendly budget”, the PM said.

He said that the government was committed to fulfill the promises the PTI had made during the pre-election campaigning. He told the PTI chairman that selfless service, uplift of weaker segments of society and uniform development across the state was top most priority of his government.

He said that under the “Clean and Green Kashmir Campaign”, all the cities of Azad Kashmir were being cleaned. “A code of conduct has been introduced for government offices to restore the peoples’ confidence in government institutions”, the PM said.

“Special focus has been laid on tourism to increase the revenue at local level whereas funds have also been allocated in the budget for the promotion of tourism sector”, the AJK PM said.

Lauding the former premier’s generous financial support to the government of Azad Kashmir, Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan lamented that quite contrary the incumbent government in the center has decided to reduce the AJK’s development funds. He said that timely intervention and efforts by the government have yielded some relief, however, the federal government has yet not fulfilled our demands regarding the budgetary funds.

Referring to the recent wave of inflation, the PM AJK said that the inflationary spike would severely affect the development process of Azad Kashmir. However, the government of Azad Kashmir has issued strict instructions to complete the development projects on time.

Sardar Tanveer Ilyas Khan said that along with the ongoing development projects, new projects have also been included in the budget.

Speaking on the occasion, Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan said that since the people have attached high hopes with PTI there was a dire need that the government should utilize all its resources to fulfill the peoples’ expectations.

The PTI chairman said that Azad Kashmir has a lot of potential for tourism and the tourism sector can play an important role in eliminating unemployment.

“Special focus should be given to the development of the tourism sector”, he said adding that while launching new projects, their environmental impact should be taken into consideration.

Regarding the protection of the natural environment, he said, new trees should be planted to compensate for the damage caused to forests. “Wildlife is becoming rare and their protection should be ensured”, the former premier said.
