Govt to block smuggled mobile phones after Dec 31: Information Minister

ISLAMABAD (MEDIA REPORT)

The Information Minister Fawad Chaudhry on Friday said that government has decided to ban smuggled mobile phones into the country after December 31.

The Information Minister after attending a cabinet meeting said that the federal cabinet has decided to impose a ban on smuggled phones from December 31, 2018. However, mobile phones brought into the country before December 31 would not be blocked.

Fawad Chaudhry said said that the government in a bid to promote the local mobile phones industry decided to block the smuggled cell phones. He said that cell phones worth Rs. 2.5 billion are smuggled into the country every year.

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) will block all such phones after the deadline.
