Laptops distributed among high-achievers of FBISE

Minister of State for Federal Education Engineer Balighur Rehman on Thursday distributed laptops among three top position-holders in the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) examinations conducted by the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE).

“All top three position holders in FBISE examinations will get laptops along with cash prize in line with the directions of the country’s president. Also, students will be provided with ‘Qarz-e-Hasna’ for higher studies. They will return the money at the rate of five percent every year without interest after starting their jobs. The return amount will be used for other students,” he told a ceremony organised on the FBISE premises here to give away laptops to HSSC examinations high-achievers.

The minister said scholarship for bright students had been increased to Rs50,000 per year in order to encourage students, while prize money for top three positions in matriculation examinations had been increased to Rs0.1 million, Rs75,000 and Rs50,000 respectively.

“For intermediate examinations, cash prize has been increased to Rs0.2 million, Rs0.15 million and Rs0.1 million for first three positions,” he said. Also on the occasion, the minister congratulated and admired FBISE chairman Dr. Ikram and Prof Norman Reid from University of Glasgow for successfully conducting the education assessment workshop at the FBISE.

“No planning can be done without the assessment of the ground situation,” he said. The minister said things were improving, while system of trainings, evaluations and assessments were getting better.

He said training manuals had been developed at the FBISE with the suggestions of other boards for the first time at the federal board that was a remarkable achievement. “Also, one-window operation system and issuance of online roll number slip are great initiatives taken by FBISE,” he said.  The minister said Pakistan would adopt international assessment systems like PISA and TIMSS by 2019.
