Spectrum Issue ! PTA & FAB stand with Telenor

ISLAMABAD ( BMZ REPORT )

On the directions of Islamabad High Court, a high level meeting in the absences of Chairman Pta headed by Member Compliance of PTA, Mr Abdul Samad took place regarding the new spectrum issued  awarded to Telenor Pakistan. However no tangible result was seen to come out of it.

The high level meeting was attended by representatives of all the telecos. Apart from PTA senior officers, Frequency Allocation Board (FAB) officers were also present in this meeting.

During this meeting both FAB and PTA representatives stood with their stance regarding the spectrum awarded to Telenor Pakistan and stated that the spectrum was not causing any interference to other networks.

A sub technical committee was established during this meeting which will meet within 36 hours. The aim of this committee is to validate whether the complaint of interference due to Telenor’s new spectrum is true or not.

It seems that this issue will not be resolved among PTA, FAB and the cellular companies and will only be resolved by a third party. Which most likely will be the court.

This contention that has risen between the PTA, FAB and the cellular companies sans Telenor Pakistan was due to the new spectrum awarded recently to the Norwegian company. This led to a complaint in the Islamabad High Court by Zong, Ufone and Mobilink stating that the new spectrum is causing interference in their own networks.

Here are some letters written to PTA regarding spectrum issue,
