Day four, ‘Patrol-State Power’ which focused on politics, began early morning with Day Champ Uzair Ausaf, who delivered a session on the role of the state in policy making, and how civil society can influence it.

Supported by founding partner EBM, an organization with a long established history of working with conviction for the cause of youth empowerment, each year YLC opens its doors to 300 youngsters between the ages of 18-24 from all over Pakistan. Participants and program segments have also been sponsored by Thal Engineering Limited, U-Report, UNICEF, Friedrich-Naumann-Stuftung, and PPAF, working towards bringing diversity to the conference by taking up the responsibility of funding attendance costs for individuals from underprivileged backgrounds.

An activity titled ‘Democracy in Action’ which simulated the electoral process from initiation, to campaigning, voting, assembly formation and summit bill presentations was conducted on this day. The purpose of the activity was to help initiate the participants with how governments and politics work. Raza Haroon was present for the duration of the events.

In a series of parallel workshops on youth policy and youth representation, leading personalities from journalism and politics including Raza Haroon, Mohsin Naqvi, and Jibran Nasir addressed the participants, sharing their views and insight, giving birth to a discourse on subjects such as state law, the place of religion in politics, the judicial system, and the politics of representation.

Lt. Gen (R). Asad Durrani then took the stage to explain to the young participants how to make sense of the conflicting points of view of the media, the Government and the citizenry regarding state power and the power of the establishment during ‘The War of Narratives’. During ‘Mera Passion Pakistan’, Lt. Gen (r) Asad Durrani, Shahzad Nawaz and Rizwan Jaffer engaged each other in conversation on stage to talk about the rights and duties of citizenship.

The fourth day of the six-day conference came to a close after a session with SoL trainers. The conference will continue for two more days, until July 30.
