Convocation 2016 for the Foundation University. ­­­­277 graduates were awarded degrees

The Convocation 2016 for the Foundation University was held at the University Auditorium on Tuesday. Lt Gen Shafqaat Ahmed HI(M) (Retd), the Chief Executive and Managing Director Fauji Fertilizer Company Limited (FFC) was the chief guest while Maj Gen Khadim Hussain HI(M) (Retd), Rector FUI and Brig Dr Akhtar Nawaz Malik (Retd), Director FU Rawalpindi Campus were also present on the occasion.

As many as ­­­­277 graduates of Education & Psychology and Business & Economics were awarded degrees by the MD FFC. The chief guest also awarded 8 gold medals, 8 silver medals, 41 distinction certificates and 47 merit certificates. The awards for best graduating student were clinched by Sarah Qaiser and Shoaib Ali Khan. Cash prizes were also awarded to the best graduating students.

In his welcome address, Rector Foundation University Islamabad highlighted the progress and academic excellence FUI has achieved in the past years. He said, the priority areas of the University in the domain of Academics and Administration have a very sharp focus on academic excellence, support for individual learning, quality enhancement, innovation and creativity, service to the local, national and international communities, collaborative research and partnerships, open communication and consultation and close liaison with industry for meaningful synergy.

The chief guest, in his address, said that in a short span of time, the Foundation University has succeeded in creating an environment conducive to broad based education by enabling its students to understand the complexities of the 21st century. He said, it is heartening to note that the University has embarked upon a strategic plan to consolidate its existing programs of study in the domains of engineering, management, medicine and social sciences. “I am quite confident that in the years to come, Foundation University will be one of the best institutions in the country and will provide a vibrant intellectual environment that will be satisfying and rewarding both for the faculty and the students,” he added.

The chief executive and MD FFC said that the progress, prosperity and strength of nations depend on their ability to create and apply knowledge. Only highly educated human resource can address today’s complex economic, technological, social and societal challenges.

The chief guest said, the production of quality educationists, engineers and business managers is vital for the progress of the country which is confronted with multifarious challenges on the economic, social, infrastructural and security domains in particular. He advised the graduating students that the new millennium is making its way through and it is about time that we join hands and keep in pace with the technological advancement.

He felicitated the parents and guardians of graduates and award winners and said that the graduating students will now have an opportunity to use their knowledge and expertise in the service of their country. In the end, Rector FUI presented a shield to the chief guest.
