According to various high level sources among telecom sector a major upset is being expected. There are rumours flying around that that Etisalat will be consolidating its resources to make a bigger telecom company in Pakistan that will see Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) and Ufone to merge together to form one company. This new company will offer internet, telephony and LDI services along with Direct to home services. The new setup will see one CEO compared to having two.
Numerous sources pointed out that Walid Irshad and Abdul Aziz who are the CEOs of PTCL and Ufone respectively will be changed from their seats and a new person will be heading the new company. The new setup is said to be in the works so that there can be better management of both PTCL and Ufone.
With inception of 3G and 4G services in the country there has been stiff competition and PTCL was lagging behind in this race. This has seen considerable chunks of customers are leaving the company behind. Internet services of PTCL that included 3G EVO was not being used as it was before as other telcos were actively promoting their services with better and improved 3G/4G services.
In light of these developments, a new company is now being established by Etisalat by end of March 2016.
