Minister for IT, Anusha Rahman met the delegation of edotco International, a subsidiary of Axiata, Malaysia, a regional telecom company having holdings across Asia Pacific in mobile and infrastructure sector. The delegation comprised of Mr. Raymond Tan Group Head of Regulatory and Mr. Arif Hussain CEO Pakistan.
Minister for IT, shared with them the potential investment opportunities in ICT sector of Pakistan. She said that owing to growing trend of telecom and broadband services in Pakistan, its time is ripe to invest in all verticals of ICT industry.

“As our Government embarks upon providing coverage to unserved and underserved through multibillion subsidies, any new entrant can potentially reach the 100% population with less than 70% foot print coverage as per licensing requirement. Telecom is the most lucrative sector for business investment with double digit ROI and huge potential for growth” the Minister said.

The delegation appreciated the endeavors of current Government to provide an enabling environment for business and congratulated the Minister for IT to spur the digital growth in the country through present government’s dedication and conviction. They looked forward to invest in Tower Sharing Business with an initial investment of $50 million in Pakistan while with an active eye on other potential opportunities, particularly in the wake of forthcoming spectrum auction for 3G and 4G.

Minister shared with them the trajectory of ICT landscape, which is well poised to reap the economic benefits of this phenomenal growth of broadband from mere 3% to 15% over a short space of 11 months. “With the help of more investments in emerging verticals and horizontals in ICT sector, the real term economic gains for the prosperity of Pakistan are imminent” Anusha said.

She assured of full support to all potential investors in ICT sector with an enabling environment focusing on ease of doing business and urged them to make the most of the emerging potential opportunities in ICT sector.
