The recent data released by Information technology industry of various countries should be an eye opener for all the stakeholders in computer and IT industry in Pakistan. Pakistan Computer Association (PCA) has always been voicing for utilization of the real potential of industry to boost the national economy and to reduce the joblessness. Now it is high time to revisit the existing policies for the computer and IT industry of the country to be able to be more competitive in today’s global and regional markets.
Munawar Iqbal, chairman of PCA said this in a press release explaining the growth of the computer and IT sector as a global trend. He said that only America’s IT industry has added 70,500 new jobs in the first half of 2015, employing nearly five million people at mid-year, according to a recent report released by the IT industry association in America.
The chairman of PCA said that of course our industry cannot be at par with the most developed industry. However, we can enhance our capacity and utilize our potential at best by envisaging a shared country strategy to boost computer and IT sector.
He elaborated that IT industry could be instrumental for the growth of various sectors of economy including healthcare, education, retail and finance and thus creating unprecedented job opportunities benefitting educated youth across Pakistan.
Munawar Iqbal said that the global and regional markets are also looking for trained workforce including software developers, data scientists, web developers and network architects and Pakistan could avail this opportunity with some proactive steps on the part of industry and the government. He said that PCA would welcome any step by the government that may lead the industry to a step forward for the better competitiveness in the region.
