Seacom, Pakistan hit by SMW4 cable break

ISLAMABAD

Seacom said it had completed reprioritization and reallocation of capacity for its customers and approximately 75 percent of customers were fully restored as of 11.00hrs GMT on 27 March. After a break in its own subsea system on 22 March, the African operator suffered from additional disruptions to service on 27 March after a cut on the Sea-Me-We-4 cable system off the coast of Egypt. Seacom said its team continues to work hard to source further capacity to establish full restoration. Repairs on its own system are expected to last until early April. Pakistan operator Wateen Telecom reported that internet services in Pakistan were also disrupted by the break in SMW4. It was unclear the cause of the cable break, or how long it would take to restore services.
