The Election Commission has taken serious view of the aforesaid
news item and has, therefore, directed that the appointment notification shall not
be implemented.
I am directed to refer to the subject cited above and to state that
your request for relaxation of ban in respect of appointment of Member (Finance)
and Member (Technical) of Pakistan Telecommunication Authority is under
process in Election Commission of Pakistan. However, it has been learnt that
Cabinet Division ha~ aep()J~ted Mr. Farooq Awan as Member of PTA. Prima facie
the action taken is tantamount to violation of the directive of the Election
Commission. It has also been reported in the press that efforts are being made to
materialize the multi-billion dollar 3G auction by iriffde”ncingthe PTA through such
appointment.
2. The Election Commission hastaken serious view of the aforesaid
news item and has, therefore, directed that the appointment notification shall not
be implemented and in this regard you are requested to offer your comments
within three days for placing before the Hon’ble Election Commission.
