PTA refuse take action against HEC on illegal internet selling.

ISLAMABAD ( ABRAR MUSTAFA )

A day before a high level delegate called upon the Chairman, Pakistan Telecom Authority to discuss the recent reports of Higher Education Commission selling paid internet services illegally.

During the meeting, the delegate not only informed the Chairman but also asked for strict action against the education regulation body as the country’s laws and regulations don’t allow anyone to sell telecommunication services of any kind without PTA’s issued license.

However according to various reports it has been discovered that HEC has been selling internet to various educational institutions in the country without any permission or license.

Moreover, the internet that is being sold off is said to be through “Pakistan Educational Research Network” or PERN, a subsidized internet service created specifically for universities and other educational institutions.

According to various individuals that were part of the delegate, it has been reported Chairman, Mr. Ismail Shah wasn’t too keen on taking action on HEC. They said that he was not only reluctant but it seemed that he didn’t wanted a clash of institutions between PTA and HEC.

The delegate expressed its displeasure on the reaction of the Chairman and reinforced their complaint that lack of action against HEC is going to harm the ISPs that are legally operating in the country after paying considerable legal fees and more.
