PTA completed first 3G/4G quality survey.

ISLAMABAD ( ABRAR MUSTAFA )

Pakistan Telecom Authority has completed its first 3G/4G quality survey. Back in April 2014, Pakistan Telecom Authority held the auction on which four telecom companies: Telenor, Ufone, Mobilink and Zong submitted their bids and become success. These companies were given one year for setting up and starting their services. The survey and its results have been forwarded to the telecom companies. This will help them to understand where they have been lagging and what they can do to improve their services even further.

Prior to the survey, the telecom authority took information from the companies regarding their 3G/4G infrastructure and their BDS towers and conducted the survey on this information. The survey was conducted in the following cities: Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Karachi, Lahore and Peshawar. This was an initial survey that pointed out the flaws and areas of improvement. The second survey that will be carried out later which will result in fines if these companies have not services up to mark .

The details of the survey haven’t been published but 3G/4G services haven’t been up to the expectations of the customers. Simply said, the hype didn’t lived up to its expectation. In Lahore the 4G service of Zong is restricted to a small portion of the city. 3G is also on the same level and the whole city hasn’t been covered. Mobilink is also not offering much considering the customers are complaining about the teleco’s services in the city. The major areas of the city are still not receiving the service properly like Jail Road or Mall Road.
