The meeting of the Standing Committee on Information Technology & Telecommunication was held today at 11:30 a.m. in Committee Room of PIPS, in the Parliament Lodges, Islamabad under the Chairmanship of Mr. Ali Khan Jadoon

The Committee unanimously confirmed the minutes of its previous meeting held on 22-04-2019.

The representative from Universal Services Fund (USF) gave detail briefing on USF ongoing and future projects He also explained utilization of funds which have been utilized in all over their projects in Pakistan. In this regards they have been designed the programmes to cater for the needs of unserved and underserved segment of population across Pakistan. They will also planned for new program in current Financial Year. USF also intends to provide coverage to the unserved areas in FATA and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, headed. Further more USF is also gathering data from telecom operators regarding their existing coverage in the country and also design projects to upgrade existing infrastructure to provide 3G services.

The representative from USF also informed that they will provide High Speed Broad Band services in the motor ways and high ways very soon.

The committee unanimously showed their concerns on the issue of objectionable material/ Complaints regarding cyber crime and fake accounts and directed that the ministry should take stringent measures to cope up with these issues with help of PTA and FIA. In this regard the Chairman Standing Committee on IT emphasized on the coordination between FIA and IT to improve the quality of work.

The CEO from ignite also briefed the Committee on the agriculture related projects/development and programme. He informed about the “Maira Mawashi Application” for the betterment of the farmers in Pakistan.

The meeting was attended by MNAs Mr. Sahibzada Sibgatullah, Makhdoom Zain Hussain Qureshi, Mr. Muhammad Aslam Khan, Ms. Javairia Zafar Aheer, Ms. Romina Khursheed Alam and  Syed Mehmood Shah. The meeting was also attended by Minister for IT and senior officers of the Ministry of IT.
