U.S. President Donald Trump said that progress has been made on the approval of the TikTok deal. He added that Chinese President Xi Jinping will also visit the United States at an appropriate time.
In their telephone conversation, President Donald Trump and his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping discussed TikTok and the U.S.-China trade agenda as top priorities. President Trump said he was pleased about the progress on the TikTok deal and noted that he would have another phone call with the Chinese president. He described the conversation with Xi Jinping as productive.
The two leaders also discussed trade and the Russia-Ukraine war. Trump said it was agreed that he will visit China early next year, while he will meet his Chinese counterpart in November at the APEC Summit in South Korea.
President Xi Jinping described the phone call with Donald Trump as positive and constructive, stressing that China-U.S. relations are of vital importance. He said that U.S.-China trade ties are significant and will benefit the global economy. He added that the Chinese government respects corporate decisions, reiterating that China’s stance on TikTok is clear, and urged the U.S. to refrain from unilateral tariffs. Xi emphasized that the Chinese government respects the wishes of its companies.
