Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister, Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar has urged the Security Council to take action for Immediate ceasefire and Unimpeded aid access in Palestine.

Dar presided over the United Nations Security Council’s Quarterly Open Debate on the “Situation in the Middle East including the Palestinian Question”. The Open Debate was upgraded to the Ministerial level by Pakistan’s Presidency.

Delivering Pakistan’s national statement, the DPM/FM condemned systematic targeting of hospitals, schools, UN facilities, aid convoys and refugee camps as deliberate acts of collective punishment, in flagrant violation of IHL, numerous Security Council and General Assembly resolutions, as well as binding provisional measures ordered by the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

Characterizing the Palestine question a litmus test for the credibility of the United Nations, the DPM/FM urged the Security Council to take action for Immediate ceasefire, Unimpeded aid access, End to occupation & forced displacement,  Renewed and reinforced international support to UNRWA,  Implementation of the Arab and OIC-led reconstruction plan for Gaza, Revival of the state solution.

He stated that a comprehensive and enduring peace in the Middle East requires addressing all interrelated crises across the region, whether in Syria, Lebanon or Iran, through effective multilateralism and peaceful settlement of disputes.

The DPM/FM said that time had come to give the Palestinian people what they have been denied for far too long: justice, freedom, dignity, and a state of their own. He said this is the path to durable peace and stability in the Middle East.
