A grand peace gathering was organized in Bajaur against the ongoing unrest. Thousands of people from across the district participated in the event.

The host of the peace gathering, Emir Jamaat-e-Islami Bajaur Sahibzada Haroon-ur-Rasheed, along with MNA Mubarak Zeb Khan, former provincial assembly candidate Abid Khan, MPA and DDAC Chairman Dr. Hameed-ur-Rehman, MPA Anwar Zeb Khan, MPA Nisar Baz, Tehsil Chairman Haji Syed Badshah, Tehsil Chairman Dr. Khaleel-ur-Rehman, former MNAs Shahab-ud-Din Khan, Syed Akhunzada Chattan, Gul Dad Khan, Malik Sultan Zeb, Sahibzada, Maulana Waheed Gul, Haji Sardar Khan, Malik Khalid Khan, and several elders of Bajaur and office bearers from various organizations attended the gathering.

Speakers at the event highlighted that despite numerous military operations under different names in various periods in Bajaur, unrest has once again intensified in the region. They pointed out that the government has reneged on the promises made at the time of the merger (of tribal areas), and now, additional taxes are being imposed, snatching away the already limited employment opportunities.

They also criticized the government’s recent formation of a committee, calling it a distraction, under the pretense of restoring the traditional Jirga system in tribal areas.

In the declaration issued at the end of the gathering, the ongoing unrest and oppressive treatment of the people of Bajaur were outrightly rejected. It was announced that if demands are not met, a peaceful march and sit-in protest will be held. The imposition of any kind of taxes on the tribal people and the formation of the committee were also rejected.

The gathering strongly condemned the killing of ANP’s Maulana Khan Zeb, who was martyred in Bajaur, and a collective prayer was offered for the reward of his soul.
