Chairman PTA Holds Bilateral Meeting with GSMA

PTA and GDIP Agree to Promote Strategic Cooperation on Digital partnership

Major General (Retd.) Hafeez ur Rehman, Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), held a bilateral meeting with the leadership of the Global System for Mobile Communications Association (GSMA) during the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) 2025 held in Lillestrom, Norway.

During the meeting, both parties discussed strengthening mutual cooperation in key areas such as the promotion of mobile broadband, spectrum policy, digital inclusion, and the development of the telecom sector. The PTA Chairman emphasized the importance of enhancing digital connectivity in Pakistan, developing an effective regulatory framework, and creating a conducive environment for investment and the adoption of modern technologies.

The GSMA acknowledged PTA’s dynamic and progressive regulatory role and assured its support in light of Pakistan’s digital transformation goals. This meeting reflects PTA’s commitment to fostering international collaboration, aligning with global best practices, and playing an effective regulatory role in shaping a modern and digitally empowered Pakistan.

PTA and GDIP Agree to Promote Strategic Cooperation on Digital partnership

 A high-level bilateral meeting took place between the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), led by Chairman Major General (Retd.) Hafeez ur Rehman, and the Global Digital Inclusion Partnership (GDIP) during the Internet Governance Forum (IGF) 2025. The meeting was held in light of the Letter of Cooperation signed between the two organizations and was attended by GDIP’s Executive Director, Onica N. Makwakwa.

Both sides reaffirmed their joint commitment to making the digital ecosystem inclusive, equitable, and accessible to all, with particular emphasis on gender-sensitive policymaking and equal access. PTA provided a detailed briefing on its ongoing initiatives, including progress on the Gender Digital Divide Program and the upcoming implementation of the Submarine Cables Workshop.

The discussions also explored expanding cooperation under the gender inclusion strategy and identifying new opportunities for effective connectivity and digital empowerment. PTA remains committed to fostering global collaboration in the pursuit of comprehensive and sustainable digital transformation.
