ISLAMABAD ( Web News )

Former US special envoy for Pakistan and Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad has suggested that the elections in Pakistan in early June saying that Imran Khan’s arrest will only deepen the crisis. He also mentioned that Pakistan has been facing a triple crisis.

Taking to twitter, Zalmay Khalilzad posted a series of tweets. He stated, “Pakistan faces a triple crisis: political, economic, and security. Despite great potential, it is underperforming and falling far behind its archrival, India. It is time for serious soul-searching, bold thinking, and strategizing. Here are my thoughts:”

He termed the cannibalizing of leaders through jailing, execution and assassination as the wrong path. In second part of tweet he  stated, ” The sequential cannibalizing of its leaders through jailing. execution, assassination, etc. is the wrong path. Arresting Imran Khan will only deepen the crisis. 1 urge 2 steps: 1. set a date for national election in early June to avert a meltdown.”

In the last he said that election should be held and whichever party wine the elections that will have the mandate to implement things.

“Use this time for the main political parties to confront what has gone wrong and propose a specific plan to rescue and put the country on a path to stability, security, and prosperity,” he added. He said whichever political party wins the election will have a mandate from the people on what must be done.
