5 killed, 38 injured as blast hits Shia procession in Bahawalnagar

BAHAWALNAGAR ( Web News )

At least five people were killed and over 38 others injured after a bomb went off near a procession of Shia Muslims in the Bahawalnagar district of Punjab.

Police sources said that women and children are among the injured in the blast that occurred near the Jail road area of the district, adding that the death toll might further rise as several injured are in critical condition.

Rescue teams, police and security forces reached the site and shifted the injured to a nearby hospital.

The nature of the explosion has yet to be ascertained.

Meanwhile, in a video, it is claimed that Police have arrested the alleged attacker who hurled a cracker on Ashura procession in Bahawalnagar.

Videos circulating on social media showed police and ambulances rushing toward the site of the bombing.

On the other hand, Political and social activist condemns the attack.

Former SAPM Zulfi Bukhari in his tweet said: “Extremely disturbing news of attack on peaceful #Ashura procession in #Bahawalnagar What they don’t understand is that Hussainis wear black & leave their homes to be martyrs, and this attack only shows Yazidis are still around. #labaikyahussain”
