President & CEO Telenor Group Visits Pakistan, calls on President Mamnoon Hussain

Sigve Brekke, President and CEO of Telenor Group, met with the President of Pakistan to reiterate Telenor’s commitment to realizing the ambition of a digital Pakistan. Mr. Brekke visited Pakistan to visit the new Telenor Pakistan campus in Islamabad called ‘345’, the original prefix for Telenor numbers in Pakistan.

During his meeting with the President of Pakistan Mr. Mamnoon Hussain at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, Mr. Brekke acknowledged the Pakistani government’s efforts to create a conducive environment for the growth of telecom sector.

Commenting on the role of telecommunication sector in Pakistan, President Mamnoon Hussain said, “Unprecedented development is being undertaken in Pakistan in various sectors including health, education, economy and agriculture by utilizing Telecommunication technology which is resulting in further progress and economic stability of the country. The significant changes are being witnessed in telecommunication sector after the introduction of 3G and 4G in the country.” He further said. “Telenor in collaboration with the Pakistani universities can also establish research centers for the promotion of research in the field of telecommunication.”

Telenor Group has been operating in Pakistan since 2005 and has made immense contribution towards the socioeconomic uplift of the country. It has invested over USD 3.5B, contributed over USD 2.3B to the national exchequer and created over 5,000 jobs. The establishment of new Telenor Campus ‘345’ built with a cost of USD 75M is a testament to Telenor’s long term commitment to Pakistan.
