Iqra University spurs students’ Creative Genius through competition

Iqra University, Karachi held a competition for its students, titled ‘IU Creative Genius’ to hunt for hidden talent in the realm of art and craft. The competition solicited entries from students of media sciences in various categories to compete for the coveted title.

Aimed at galvanizing creative capabilities, the competition prompted students into exploring their knack for advertising, Film & TV, Animation, Audio & Video, Still photography, Painting and more to showcase their flairs before industry experts.  The candidates competed in nine categories, namely Best in Photography, Best in Storyboard, Best in TVC, Best in Social Media Campaign, Best in Digital Painting/Drawing, Best in New Business Idea, Best in Poster Design, Best in Animation/Illustration and Best in Short Film/Documentary.

The event that was high on excitement took place in the university’s main auditorium. A prolific name in the country’s entertainment industry, Mr. Yousuf Bashir Qureshi (YBQ) graced the occasion as the Chief Guest.

Students of media sciences enthusiastically participated in the event through great number of entries, eventually making the job tougher for the judges’ panel which comprised of Founder Tech Pakistan Mr. Kanwal Masroor, Senior Art Director H2O Entertainment Mr. Shahan Hussain Zaidi, noted writer, director, actor and a stand-up comedian Mr. Faheem Azam, Head of Art at Kueball Digital Mr. Muhammad Rizwan, General Manager Creative Geo TV Network Mr. Masood Ali Khan, and CEO Abdul Samad Zia Weddings Mr. Abdul Samad Zia. The course instructor & the genius mind behind the whole event concept Ms. Kulsum Sheikh shared her deepest gratitude to the university management, jury members, sponsors and the students who extended their support and turned the idea into reality.

There were heart captivating performances by Mansaals, a group of young and enthusiast performers Salman Parekh & Suleman Ashraf Habib. Joined them were the Iqra University’s Music Society’s students namely Anas Hussain, Shavez Ali, Adeel Jhon, Shimron Samuel, Taimoor Asif, Anusha Ali, Christopher, Rahim Artani, Talha Shehzad &Arif Akbar who rocked the stage and entertained the guests with their heart melting music. The event was hosted by two very talented students of the university Mehsam A. Malik and Maham Shahid.

Sharing his thoughts on this, the Head of Department, Media Sciences, Mr. Latif Abbasi  said: “I welcome here at Iqra University the experts from different fields of art, entertainment and media who have played an instrumental role in keeping the art forms alive in the country. It is art that keeps the society courteous, sensitive and humane from its core. I believe a workable fusion of art and media facilitates effective dissemination of crucial messages for a greater impact. Iqra University believes in preparing its students to play meaningful roles in the society. Here I would like to appreciate the Department of Media Sciences for providing an excellent platform for students to express their creative faculties. I congratulate the winners, besides all the participants for their extraordinary efforts. I hope that you will use your talent, knowledge and training for creating value for the society.’

Prizes were distributed among the winners in different categories. The event was supported by various sponsors including Master Molty Foam, Unique, Pro Nexus, Number 3 Clothing, Jack & Jones, Voxtron Solutions, and Sam’s By Yarn & Fabrics.
