GSM Network in AJK is now capable to launch 3G & 4G services

ISLAMABAD ( MEDIA REPORT )

Special Communication Organization (SCO) has upgraded and replaced its GSM Network in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and is now capable to launch 3G & 4G services, said Major General Amir Bajwa of SCO.

SCO’s previous legacy core-network was not upgradable to 3G or 4G network and was hence modernize so the operator is able to offer 3G or 4G services in AJK and GB.

For the purpose SCO had awarded ZTE the network modernization project with a value of Rs. 1.4 billion in total.

Under the project SCO’s network is upgraded in following verticals:

“SCO has upgraded the network by installing required equipment and is ready for launching 3G/4G services in AJK”, said Bajwa while briefing the National Assembly Standing committee on Information Technology and Telecom.

PTA had announced to auction 3G/4G spectrum for AJK and GB last year, but it was apparently waiting for SCO to complete the network modernization project.

With this new development, we can now assume that PTA will soon go ahead with 3G/4G license auction for AJK and GB
