KARACHI  ( TARIQ REPORT )

In yet another testament to its pursuit toward academic excellence, Pakistan’s leading technology institution Usman Institute of Technology (UIT) has won the Best Paper Award at a two-day Computer Sciences & Information Technology (CS & IT) conference organized by the Institute of Business & Technology (IBT). Beating entrants from the country’s top 16 universities, Dr. Muhammad Wasim, Assistant Professor at UIT, won the coveted award for his paper ‘Dotted Raster-stereography ¾ an efficient approach for face detection.’

The conference was held on October 30-31, 2016, at IBT. A number of national and international speakers presented their latest research in the field of CS & IT. Dr. Numan Islam, Associate Professor at Iqra University, served as the session chair of conference.

The paper discussed the dotted raster-stereography technique, which is more accurate and efficient as compared to the conventional technology i.e. line raster-stereography. This latest technology can help in face detection, object shape recognition and especially in the field of health for body symmetry and spinal cord disorders. The research paper is published in IBT’s Journal of Information and Communication Technology (JICT).

I am glad that in this competitive playing field, the committee recognized the quality of our work. I hope my work contributes to multifarious technological developments, especially in the field of healthcare technology. I feel encouraged by this award to delve more into tech research and make the best of my contributions to the scientific community.”
