Zong Wins HEC Contract to Extend Wireless Broadband Services to Students

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) and CM Pak (Zong) Wednesday signed the contract for provision of 3G Wireless Broadband Services to all the students who will be the recipient of laptops under Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme (Phase-II).

Mr. Arshad Kamran, Director General (Services) and Mr. Niaz A. Malik, Deputy CEO CMPak signed the contract. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman HEC and Mr. Liu Dianfeng, Chairman and CEO, CMPak (Zong) were also present.

The objective of the agreement is to provide reliable and efficient connectivity access to students by provision of 3G Wireless Broad Band Services to enhance their knowledge base across the country.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed said that HEC is committed to efficiently providing services to students, adding that the provision of internet service to students along with laptops will help them have an easy access to information and digital resources. He said that under the second phase of Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme, 200,000 laptops would be provided to talented students of various universities across Pakistan and AJK. He said the students will have direct access to HEC Digital Library while carrying out their research.

Pakistan’s most advanced and only 3G + 4G operator Zong signed a contract with Higher Education Commission (HEC) here on Thursday for the provision of Wireless Broadband Services on laptops to be provided to the students across the country under the “Prime Minister’s Laptop Scheme Phase-II”.

The objective of HEC and Zong is to provide reliable and efficient connectivity access to students by provision of Wireless Broad Band Services and enhance their knowledge base across the country.

Chairman & CEO Zong Mr. Liu Dianfeng said,

It is with this spirit that we have decided to come forward and assist the Government of Pakistan in its Prime Minister Laptop Scheme Phase II which will benefit thousands of bright students across the country.”

Zong is proud to serve and provide high speed 3G broadband services under this project which caters 100,000 students nationwide. The students will be provided privileged wireless access to Global Educational Resources available on HEC’s Digital Library through PERN (Pakistan Education & Research Network). The HEC Digital Library resources were currently available to students only in campuses of respective Universities; but by virtue of this project, students will be able to access the Digital Library resources across the country, anywhere, anytime. The students will also enjoy seamless Internet services through co-branded MBB dongle devices.
