In line with the vision of Government of Pakistan, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has made a Vision 2025 for telecom and ICT sectors of Pakistan under the guidance of Chairman PTA Dr.Ismail Shah. The draft of the Vision 2025 has included projection of Pakistan telecom sector especially the growth of mobile sector by 2025. The overall impact of this growth on economy has also been projected in this document. Vision 2025 is being circulated within PTA for further comments and refinement which will be presented to the Government later on. According to some projections, the revenues of telecom sector will grow up to US$ 17 billion/year in 2025 from now US$ 3.5 billion/year.
Index of telecommunication development has moved from fixed line & mobile voice penetration to broadband and connected Data and more importantly communities. Connected devices will rise exponentially and impact the society and economies will be much more than connected community. Market opportunity for the wireless industry revenues by 2020 USD 1.2 trillion in different industry sectors such as energy, healthcare, science, transportation, retail and others. The reaction of MNOs, Software Companies and others in the value chain to this opportunity will have important implications for their future success. Currently they have a clear opportunity to play a central role. The number of linked sensors, cameras, and complex peripheral devices are already exploding around us, and the industry will figure out new ways to blend these streams of information into a cohesive intelligence layer that we can interact with consumer’s daily lives
Pakistan population will reach 226 million in 2025 with median age 26.4 and the countries consumer appetite will grow for all kind of ICT services and innovative developments. MBB subscribers should be able to reach 79 million by 2025 i.e. a MBB penetration of 35%.. Availability of 2.1 billion in 2025 connected devices in Pakistan with an average person connected to 9.5 devices presents an 11 times bigger market opportunity than the mobile voice market. Revenues from connected devices will surpass both the Voice and Data by 2020 and their combined revenues by 2025.
Pakistan mobile and related market will be over USD 17 Billion/Year by 2025 up from the current USD 3.9 Billion/Year. 3G spectrum release in 2013, to contribute NPV of additional GDP over the period to 2020 to the tune of Pak Rs. 1180 bn and 900,000 additional jobs. Key Service Providers in Pakistan will be encouraged to offer extended OTT services and have to work with them and vice versa to offer consumers value through product centric services in a collaborative framework. Collaborative framework shall be supported by availability of additional spectrum, spectrum harmonization, spectrum re-organization, spectrum sharing, infrastructure sharing and other such regulatory interventions and facilitations
