3G/4G auction challenged in Suprem Court Lhr registry

LAHORE ( MEDIA )

Watan party has challenged the 3G and 4G auction in Lahore registry of Supreme Court. A petition was filed by Barrister Zafarullah Khan on behalf of Watan Party stating that Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) is going to auction licenses for next generation mobile communications on throw away prices. Petition said that government expects to raise $1.3 billion from auction process which is quite low. Petitioner also contested that 4G licenses are offered along with 3G licenses hence slashing down the chances of earning more revenue as India and Iraq has generated more money by auctioning licenses for these technologies separately. Media reported.
It was also alleged in the filed petition that government was responsible for such hasty and futile auction is it is expecting to strengthen its foreign reserves with the help of the auction money. It was also mentioned that auction is going to be held in clear violation of Public Procurement Regulatory Authority (PPRA) rules. Stand was taken that all the bidding companies of the auction process are carrying defaulter status from various bank liabilities. Petition has asked court to stop the auction and ask government to restart the whole process of auction according to the rules and regulations.
