Mobile number portability should not for Jammu & Kashmir. Indian agencies

NEW DELHI  ( MEDIA )

Indian intelligence agencies want that Jammu and Kashmir should be excluded from inter-state mobile number portability (MNP). In a letter to the ministry of communications, the Defence ministry has written that the “One-nation-one number provision in the new telecom policy 2012 should not be implemented in J&K.” This is in view of apprehensions that terrorists can misuse this facility.

In a letter to the ministry of Communications, the defence ministry has written that “There is a considerable spillage of Pakistan mobile signals across the LC into India in J&K (almost up to 20 kms). This is being utilized by terrorists to conduct their operations in the state by circumventing the existing security procedures.”

Defence ministry has asked the Communications ministry to take up the issue with the ministry of external affairs (MEA) so that the issue can be resolved in accordance with the policy guidelines issued by the International telecom Union (ITU).
