Government wants to make telecentres, a “Success story”in IT sector: Anusha Rahman

 Minister of State for IT and Telecom; Ms. Anusha Rahman, chaired a consultative session regarding establishment of telecenters, at the Committee Room of Ministry of IT and Telecom here in Islamabad.
All the telecom operators were a part of this interactive session where Ms. Rahman along with the Federal Secretary of IT; Mr.Akhlaq Ahmad Tarar and the Senior Management of USFCo and MOITT took up different matters pertaining to the project for establishing the Universal Telecenters across the length and breadth of the country.
The chairperson apprised the representative members that the Federal Government has initiated a project of setting up 500 Universal Telecenters across the four provinces of Pakistan including FATA and ICT as per the NFC formula to minimize the digital divide between the Rural and Urban Areas. These UTC will act as a resource center that will provide public access to ICT services primarily for the people in un-served, under-served rural and semi -urban areas of Pakistan.
The operators took deep interest in this project, its functioning and the services provided through this project. They extended their full support in undertaking the establishment of Universal Telecenters by USFCo-MoITT.
Ms. Anusha Rahman emphasized that these Telecenters shall be established keeping in mind the international standard model of Telecenters and make it a, Success Story, in IT sector. Furthermore, these Telecenters will be located at easily accessible location and will provide space to NADRA for offering E-services, mobile phone operators for SIM verification, and other service providers/ government agencies for providing E-services to the population.
