Illegal and extra constitutional actions of police against Worldcall Telecom

The Pakistan LDI Operators in their meeting highly condemned the illegal and extra constitutional actions of police against Worldcall Telecom Limited-an Omantel Company. The LDI Operators in its meeting demanded protection of law for WTL.

The LDI Operators appeal Prime Minister of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif is respectfully requested to kindly take serious note of harassment of Worldcall Telecom Limited and intervene to eliminate activities of “Bhatta Mafia” openly threatening and targeting corporate sector under the dubious legal cover.

After meeting LDI operators issue press release that WTL has been hit by “Bhatta Mafia” where the higher management of the company is being targeted through implications in criminal offenses of personal nature. After failing to bribe the COO / Counsel a criminal FIR was registered, in accordance with their modus operandi, of civil matter and on September 6th, 2013 the police raided the office of WTL situated in Gulberg, barged in and damaged the office- harassed and abused WTL staff including female employees of WTL.

The police moved against WTL on the instance of the Bhatta Maafia and in connivance with the police targeted to extort money not due to WTL. Police registered criminal cases against the CEO and COO for matters which were purely of civil nature. 

Worldcall Telecom Limited is a multi service telecom operator providing Wireless telephony, data, Cable T.V., Long Distance and corporate solutions, infrastructure to mobile operators in Pakistan. Worldcall Telecom Limited is providing employment to 1600 direct staff and more than hundred thousand people indirectly associated with company business.

Through Omantel, the Government of Sultanate of Oman has directly invested over 270 million US Dollars in Worldcall Telecom Limited. The harassment given to a corporate of such stature has given an extremely negative message to foreign investors and is extremely detrimental to the foreign investments made in the telecom industry of Pakistan. 

 The LDI Operators in its meeting demanded protection of law for WTL.

The Honorable Prime Minister of Islamic Republic of Pakistan, Mian Muhammad Nawaz Sharif is respectfully requested to kindly take serious note of harassment of Worldcall Telecom Limited and intervene to eliminate activities of “Bhatta Mafia” openly threatening and targeting corporate sector under the dubious legal cover.
